New Brighton Apartments

In an Eco-Luxe Community

Moving into a new place is exciting. There’s the process of figuring out which area you want to live in, touring potential new homes, and bringing in all of your things on moving day. But even after you’ve moved that last box, there’s still one more thing to do — make it your own. In today’s post from The Elements at Prairie Center, we’re here to help you feel instantly at home with these simple ideas for decorating your apartment. Keep reading, and if you’re looking for pet-friendly apartments in Brighton, please contact us to schedule a tour!

Pictures

If you’re on your own and don’t have any roommates to keep you company, that first night in your new place can be somewhat lonely. That’s why we suggest unpacking some pictures as one of your first tasks. Having reminders of friends and loved ones around you will put your mind at ease — and it will remind you to plan your house-warming party!

When we suggest putting up pictures, we’re not just talking about putting out a photo of mom. Framed art, posters, and even nature photography are all good options for giving your new place some personality. Don’t have any pieces of art to put on the wall? Why not visit a yard sale or thrift shop for some interesting pieces you won’t find anywhere else.

Scents

Experts say that the sense of smell is closely linked with memory, perhaps more so than any of our other senses. That explains why every time you go past a bakery you’re reminded of home where your mother would bake fresh cookies often. When you first move into your new apartment, it should smell fresh and clean — but it probably doesn’t yet smell like home. This can be changed easily by bringing in your favorite candles, air fresheners, or scented oils. You could also bake a fresh batch of cookies and share them with your new neighbors to make instant friends.

Plants

Whether you have a green thumb or not, having at least one plant in your new home can really bring some life into it (literally). Incorporating some of nature into your new digs is not only good for your mood, but many plants are also known to actually purify the air. English ivy, spider plants, and chrysanthemums are all good for filtering toxins like ammonia and benzene out of the air. Just make sure to consider how much light you have in your apartment and whether or not your plants want sun or shade.

Throw Pillows, Blankets, and Area Rugs

It’s amazing just how far a few cozy items can go toward making you feel at home. Before you get too settled into your new place, why not plan a shopping trip to pick up some fresh new accessories? Even if it’s 90 degrees outside, a few carefully-placed throw pillows and a blanket draped over your couch will give your apartment a little more personality while giving you a comfortable place to relax and unwind.

New Pet

If you’ve pulled out all of your decorations and you still feel like something’s missing, it could be because something is! Now that you have a place of your own, there’s no better time than now to get that dog or cat you’ve always wanted. And, at The Elements at Prairie Center, pets are no problem as we’re a pet-friendly community!

Not only will you be surrounded by other pet-loving people, but we also have several convenient features that you and your furry friend will love. For instance, we have a fully-fenced onsite dog park so you and Rex can get some exercise. We also have a pet washing station for quick and easy cleanup. You’ll find more information on these features and more when you visit our pet page.
